I have again worked my usual hours, 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. for weeks on end (causing crankiness and ill temper but we do not need to discuss that here in such a cheery place), and I have another story to share with you..."Comfort and Joy" is out in November, 2007.
There are four authors who have written stories for "Comfort and Joy." The wonderful New York Times Bestselling author Fern Michaels, Marie Bostwick, Deborah J. Wolf, and I. They're all Christmas stories.
My story is titled, "Suzanna's Stockings," and I hope it brings a little sparkle to your holidays. Or, at least a laugh. Or a good cry (Those holidays can get stressful!). Mostly, I hope you can hideaway by yourself for a minute and read. Even if you have to wriggle yourself into your closet amidst wrapping paper and bows to escape the cacophony in your life. Even if you have to read at midnight under the light of Rudolph's nose. Do it. You need a little quiet. You DESERVE a little quiet. It's true. The elves told me so. You're on Santa's nice list, not the naughty one, and you've earned some sweet time to read and relax your weary and over loaded mind.
So what's Suzanna's Stockings about?
Suzanna Everts is in a coma in a hospital and things aren't lookin' too good.
Lucky for her, with a little Christmas magic from her friend, Magdalena Hernandez, she's able to leave her body and walk around her small beach side town, Canyon Beach, in Oregon. One teeny tiny problem is that Suzanna is invisible and no one can see or hear the poor lady. Of course, being invisible has its plusses. Suzanna gets a close up look at her fiance and finds out what he's really got hidden in that upstairs room. Without being seen, she watches an acquaintance drive her car straight through the front windows of a furniture shop she owns with her husband while singing opera songs. She witnesses the desperation of a family, discovers her sister's secret, finds out the city's most upright citizen does not have an upright business, gets a close up look of the disastrous inner life of a sad newcomer to Canyon Beach, and finally falls for the right guy. In the end, in time for Christmas, Suzanna finds the person she used to be years ago and dares to become her again.
So squish in some time during the holidays for you, heat up some hot chocolate with a ton of whip cream (or a hot buttered rum), curl up by the Christmas tree, and read Suzanna's Stockings.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, and Happy New Year!
And a word from Santa and those little elves....You can buy Suzanna's Stockings for your own stocking stuffer at Powells Books, Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Nobles and other book stores nationwide.
