"Many people hear voices when no one is there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing." Meg Chittenden.

Interested in having a published author come to your classroom or school?

I am available to visit classrooms in the Portland, Oregon metro area.

I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Oregon. I was also a fourth grade teacher for Beaverton Schools for more than seven years. In addition to writing five books, I have written about 250 articles as a freelance writer for The Oregonian.

My books are written for adults but I have years of experience in teaching, motivating and inspiring young students to write essays, creative stories, poetry, and expository papers.

I would be happy to bring my smile to your classroom and talk about how I come up with my ideas for my books and how I develop characters and storylines. I will also discuss how I pace my books, edit drafts, create dialogue, incorporate effective settings and word choices, and the process of publishing.

I will talk with your students about what they need to do to become writers (read, read, read, write, write, write, every day) and I will have your students complete their own writing activity.

Reasonable rates...:)
